Cedar Fair Mobile App

Cedar Fair, a leading amusement park operator, entrusted us with redesigning and rebuilding their mobile app. We launched a pilot version for Carowinds in late 2023, and have since expanded this new app experience to all 12 of their parks across North America and Canada.

Problem

We took a deep dive into understanding the app's challenges by reviewing analytics, analyzing competitors, talking to stakeholders, conducting in-person interviews, running usability tests, and gathering feedback through surveys and focus groups. This process helped us clearly identify the main issues to address with design:

  • Finding dining information was difficult

  • Simple tasks took longer than expected to complete

  • The map and navigation were confusing and not intuitive

  • Users couldn’t update their payment methods

  • The app had long load times

These insights gave us a clear direction for improving the user experience.

Solution

Enhance the in-park experience by streamlining key processes:

  • Elevate dining information by providing details on dining plan coverage, full menus, restaurant hours, and dietary options to help guests make informed choices.

  • Create a seamless wallet experience for easy access to tickets, extras, and payment methods, ensuring faster, more convenient transactions.

  • Simplify wayfinding to reduce friction and help guests navigate the park with ease.

These improvements aimed to create a smoother, more enjoyable experience for every visitor.
